Having heard of how Naomi, a foreigner & a widow, had taken care of her mother-in-law and had left her hometown to live amongst people she did not know, Boaz showed kindness to Naomi.  Fully impressed, he instructed her to pick up produce left by his reapers on his property and to feel free to drink water when thirsty.
