Day 21

Hear, O LORD, my righteous plea; listen to my cry. Give ear to my prayer — it does not rise from deceitful lips. – Psalm 17:1

As yet my love is weak,

my heart imperfect,

and so I have great need

of your strength and comfort.

Visit me often, I pray,

and instruct me

in the way of your laws.

Set me free from

all evil passions,

and heal my heart from

all immoral desires.

And thus,

healed and cleansed in spirit,

may I learn how blissful it is

to plunge into

the depths of your love.

Let your love dissolve

my hard heart.

Let your love

raise me above myself.

Let your love

reveal to me joy beyond imagination.

Let my soul

exhaust itself in

singing the praises of your love.

Let me love you

more than I love myself,

and let me love myself

only for your sake.

And let me see your love

shining in the hearts of all people,

that I may love them as I love you.

Thomas Kempis

Let us pray:

Day 15

The end of all things is near. Therefore be alert and of sober mind so that you may pray. – 1 Peter 4:7

God, our Father, we are exceedingly frail and indisposed to every virtuous and gallant undertaking. Strengthen our weakness, we beseech you, that we may do valiantly in this spiritual war; help us against our own negligence and cowardice, and defend us from the treachery of our unfaithful hearts, for Jesus Christ’s sake.” – Thomas Kempis

Let us pray:

Lord, hear our prayers.

Day 10

Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. – Jeremiah 29:12

A Prayer for the Grace of Devotion

O Lord, my God, you are my all and every good.  And what am I, that I should presume to address you?  I am the poorest of your servants and a wretched worm, far more poor and worthless than I can ever realize or express.  Yet, Lord, remember that I am nothing: I have nothing, and can do nothing.  You alone are good, just and holy; you can do all things, fill all things, bestow all things, leaving only the wicked empty-handed.  Remember your mercies, Lord, and fill my heart with your grace, since it is your will that none of your works should be worthless.  How can I endure this life of sorrows, unless you strengthen me with your mercy and grace?  Do not turn your face from me; do not delay your coming, nor withdraw your consolation from me, lest my soul become like a waterless desert.  Teach me, O Lord, to do your will; teach me to live worthily and humbly in your sight; for you are my wisdom, who know me truly, and who knew me before the world was made, and before I had my being.

Amen.

– Thomas Kempis

Let us pray:

Share with God what is in your heart.

Day 6

Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours. – Mark 11:24

Give us, O Lord, steadfast hearts that cannot be dragged down by false loves;

give us courageous hearts that cannot be worn down by trouble;

give us righteous hearts that cannot be sidetracked by unholy or unworthy goals.

Give to us also, our Lord and God, understanding to know You,

diligence to look for you,

wisdom to recognize You,

and a faithfulness that will bring us to see You face to face.

– Thomas Kempis

Let us pray:

Speak what is in your heart. And don’t be afraid to ask OF HIM…
