The Biblical Remix – Hit & Run

The Biblical Remix – Hit & Run

Proverbs 7:6-21 – http://bit.ly/biblicalremixhitandrun

It was mad dark and my dude was outside walking. This loose chick he never met before rolled up on him ready to jump his bones.  She was OD with the flirtatiousness.

Bust it how she told him her husband was out of town and she just prepared her bedroom for some all night booty knocking.

Dude was so caught up by her seducing words and seeing how her butt cheeks were slightly hanging out her shorts, that he followed her right to the crib.

As they approached the bedroom door this J. Cole song was playing in the background:

“Straight up now tell me are you really gonna love me forever (ooh ooh ooh), Or is it just a hit and run…”

Reflection:

Like the dude above some of us march down the wrong path just looking to walk into traps.  We might not consciously want to do that but our actions find us straddling the line of caution in areas we know are not beneficial to our health.  I don’t know if it is the mystery or the danger that excites us.  Yet we tread on grounds that we know can be highly explosive.

If you have been part of a hit and run, please raise your hand.  Okay so I am not alone here.  If we recount those experiences (if you can remember that far or that many…woooooow…j-k…actually I’m not…), could things have gone the wrong way?  I mean to say did we place ourselves in compromising situations?  I have.

Interestingly enough at the end of the day a hit and run is really about me pleasing me.  The other person really doesn’t matter.  Even if I personally know them.  It is about me satisfying my lusts.  Can we be honest about that?

I know a “jump off” is looked upon favorably in our hip hop culture (Side Note: notice how many artists and athletes be having so many babies by different mamas…).  If I look at the big picture, what have we sowed in our communities?  High rates of HIV.  High rates of single parent homes.  Not enough baby fathers participating in the lives of their children.  A culture of low accountability and responsibility.

Truthfully if I have access to tapping some booty without ever having to commit to it, then who is to say I need to take responsibility for the consequences of my actions.  Am I content with a community that praises women to just “work out for me”?  Some dudes be whining about hitting it “in the morning”.  Others are “young, wild and free” and they don’t care who sees.  These are the lessons we are teaching to our young ones who are coming up.

Perhaps the hit and run is our way of acknowledging our sexuality at the cost of devaluing another human being.

Some people may never fully understand what I just said.  To those my advice is “stop giving it away for free”.  You are worth more than that.

The Biblical Remix – Don’t Believe

The Biblical Remix – Don’t Believe

Acts 16:16-18 – http://bit.ly/biblicalremixdontbelieve

While on a missionary trip in Macedonia, Paul and his peoples were walking to the spot for prayer. Along the way a slave girl who was a psychic crossed their path.  This chick started yelling and screaming how these men were godly men and how what they were preaching was a good thing.

For a few days she followed them around and kept yelling these things to the surrounding crowds.

Finally Paul got so tight he looked at her and with God’s authority he commanded the demon spirit that was possessing her to bounce.  And just like that the demon spirit left her.

In the background this Public Enemy song was playing:

“Don’t Believe The Hype, Don’t…Don’t…Don’t…Don’t Believe The Hype…Hoooyeah”

Reflection:

The slave girl was rolling with them for a minute.  She was giving them props and acting like a hype-person for the good things they were doing.  However she was not of the right spirit.

There are people who at times roll with us who seem down for the cause but they are not really down with us.  They have a separate agenda.  Some even have a negative or perverse spirit.  Many times that is hard for us to notice.

Even some of the people who originally started out with us on a project can be down for the wrong reason.

Discernment is the key.  You…we…must discern what spirit we are allowing to join with us.  Not everybody has that love and pure motive to take a project through to the end.  This is applicable in work, ministry, and even relationships.

Be careful who you join yourself too.  And remember, don’t believe the hype.

The Biblical Remix – U Down Wit’

The Biblical Remix – U Down Wit’

Genesis 39:1-10 – http://bit.ly/biblicalremixudownwit

As a slave bought with money, the Hebrew man Joseph lived in the house of his Egyptian master Potiphar. Within a short time everything Joseph touched and did for his master worked out well.  Potiphar even made Joseph his right hand man.

Joseph was living ghetto fab in Potiphar’s home.  Life was so good even Potiphar’s wife started checking him out. Every day she tried to get Joseph to sleep with her.  She wasn’t even low key about it.  She was hard core desperate for some Hebrew booty.  And every day Joseph would say “No”.

One day while all alone with Joseph, Potiphar’s wife walked in with a skin-tight gown on.  She turned on her iPod and this Naughty By Nature song began to play:

“You down with OPP, Yeah you know me, You down with OPP, Yeah you know me, Who’s down with OPP…”

Reflection:

As the song continues Treach says, “There’s no room for relationship, there’s just room to hit it.”  That’s exactly what Potiphar’s wife was thinking.  Basically she wanted to use Joseph for her sexual gratification and then have him move on.  She did not value Joseph and actually reduced him to a jump-off.

How many of us have been there?  Honestly.  You didn’t care about him or her or them.  You/we did not have any one in mind but ourselves.  We wanted to feel good.  In our self-centeredness we  dehumanized the other person.  We wanted Other People’s Property so we could have Our Personal Plaything.

No investment.  Just someone to use like a toy. No emotional attachment just pure physical pleasure.  A vibrator with skin and a heart beat.

You may see nothing odd about this.  However, as humans we are wired for connection and community which is why a jump-off doesn’t satisfy us holistically. We are spirit, soul & body. Our spirits are actually neglected and soiled each time.  Some times even our souls and bodies are soiled.

Perhaps if there were less jump offs, there might be less children born out of wedlock without baby daddys absent.

Perhaps if there were less jump offs, there might be more women seeing themselves as more than just a physical encounter for a man.

Perhaps if there were less jump offs, there might be more men honoring women as a human being and not a sexual play thing.

So, who u down wit?

The Biblical Remix – Now That We Found

The Biblical Remix – Now That We Found

Song of Solomon 8:1-7 – http://bit.ly/biblicalremixnowthatwefound

The slow jam of all slow jams is the Song of Solomon.  In this song Solomon and his Bride share their heart and even their little freakiness.

The Bride is desperate to see her boo and can’t wait to give him “the nectar of my pomegranates”.  Freaky indeed.

While speaking to her girlfriends, The Bride advises them not to wake up love until the time is right.  The passion can be overwhelming.

As the Bride waits to satisfy the soon coming Solomon, this Heavy D song is playing in the background:

“Now that we found love what are we gonna do, with it, Now that we found love…”

Reflection:

If u love hip hop, u know I chose this song because of the recent death of Mr Big Stuff, Heavy D.

At the young age of 44 he was able to accomplish so much creatively and touch so many lives.

Jesus, at the age of 33, touched so many lives too. Nearly 2,000 years later and people are still adoring Him and loving Him.

Why? Because He showed us how God’s love was as strong as death. Jesus had nuttin’ but love for us & died on a cross so we would have access to God.  Now that you have found the Love of Jesus at the Cross, what are you gonna do with it?

The Biblical Remix – My Head

The Biblical Remix – My Head

2 Samuel 13:1-17 – http://bit.ly/biblicalremixmyhead

Amnon, the king’s son, was lovesick over his half sister, Tamar.  He was losing weight everyday over this issue so his cousin Jonadab gave him a scheme to make him feel better.

Amnon followed the scheme by faking being sick.  His pops, the king, showed up and Amnon made up some story about being so sick that he could not eat and if his sister Tamar could come and make him feel better with her cooking.

At the king’s order Tamar showed up.  While Tamar was cooking Amnon had this Lupe Fiasco song in his head:

“Girl I want you to know, I can’t get you out of my head, my head, my head, Girl I want you to know, I don’t even know what you did…”

Reflection:

The part of the story that I didn’t share is Amnon would soon take his desires of “love” and rape Tamar.  The worst part is after he finished with her, he then had an unusual disgust with her and threw her out of his room.

What some of us define as “love” is really “lust”.

Let us examine ourselves today. The evil outside is great but the capacity for evil inside our hearts is even greater.

The Biblical Remix – I’m A Boss

The Biblical Remix – I’m A Boss

Numbers 16:1-3 – http://bit.ly/biblicalremiximaboss

Rolling with his boys and 250 leaders, Korah ambitiously stepped up to his cousin Moses and tried to son him. Korah felt Moses wasn’t all that as a leader and should not have authority over the entire assembly of the Israelites.

As Korah was leading the charge in this rebellion, this Meek Mills chorus communicated Korah’s heart:

“I’m a boss, I’m a boss. I plan the shots. I call the calls…”

Reflection:

Pride and ambition can cause us to make poor choices.  Too many people think they are a boss when in actuality they are just fools.

Everyone is watching the throne, because in their greedy hearts they want the glory and honor.  Unfortunately God  doesn’t share His glory with anybody.  He alone is God.

Are your motives pure in your current ambitions?

The Biblical Remix – Walks With Me

The Biblical Remix – Walks With Me

Luke 24:13-32 – http://bit.ly/biblicalremixwalkswithme

A few days after Jesus was crucified on the cross and died, two of his disciples were walking towards a village named Emmaus.  While they were walking and talking, a stranger rolled up into their conversation and asked them why they were sounding so sad. In amazement they broke down all the bochinche (gossip/info) about Jesus of Nazareth and how he was a Prophet and how they had hoped he would have been the redeemer of Israel.

What they didn’t know was the stranger was Jesus himself having already resurrected from the dead.  They saw and spoke with him but their eyes did not notice him.

While walking Jesus then schooled them by teaching about the Christ through the Old Testament scriptures.

During a meal break the eyes of the two men were opened and they realized it was Jesus.  Then Jesus bounced from their sight.

Full of awe the two men shared how when they were on the road their hearts felt like fire when Jesus had talked with them.

As they shared, this Kanye West hook was playing in the background:

“Jesus Walks, God showed me the way but the devil tryin to break me down, Jesus Walks With Me…”

Reflection:

It is in the scriptures that Jesus is revealed as the son of God and as the Savior of humanity. Even when our faith is lacking, Jesus doesn’t see it as a difficult thing to show up in our circumstances to reveal Himself and to encourage us.

Let not your heart be troubled. The God who created the whole universe has you on His mind.  Look closely and see how He is working in/around your life. May your eyes be opened to see Him in a new way today.

The Biblical Remix – Freaks Come Out At Night

The Biblical Remix – Freaks Come Out At Night

Genesis 19:1-6 – http://bit.ly/biblicalremixfreakscomeoutatnight

Two angels (with the appearance as men) roll up to the city of Sodom in the evening.  The man called Lot, knowing the danger of the town at night, convinced the two angels to stay at his crib rather than have them sleep out in the street.

Before turning in to sleep there was a knock on Lot’s front door.  It was the men of Sodom and they were hungry to have sexual relations with the two “men” who came into town.

As Lot went out to talk to these men, this Whodini song was playing in the  background:

“The freaks come out at night, The freaks come out at night, hut one, hut two, hut hut hut hut”

The Biblical Remix – Getting By

The Biblical Remix – Getting By

Genesis 12:10-20 – http://bit.ly/fjR3mc

Due to a famine, Abram decided to bounce to Egypt with his wife Sarai. Shook at the idea the Egyptians would kill him to get Sarai, he had her agree to say she was his sister (in actuality a half-truth – read Gen 20:12).

As they walked side by side in Egypt this Method Man/Mary J song played in the background:

“You’re all, I need to get by, ahhhh, You’re all, I need…”

The Biblical Remix – Foxy Woman

The Biblical Remix – Foxy Woman

This foxy immoral woman was definitely looking to get her freak on when she saw this simple dude walking down the street late at night. She rolled up on him, kissed him & seduced him to her bed.

As the dude walked into her home, this Foxy Brown/Blackstreet song played in the background:

“Oooooh baby, Gotta get you home with me tonight, Uh-oh, Uh-oh”

Proverbs 7:14-18http://bit.ly/if4iwD
